Artwork

ARCTOS REX emerged from a journey deep into the Arctic, traveling into one of the most remote environments on earth in pursuit of a fleeting glimpse of the polar bear. The photograph captures that encounter, but the finished work extends beyond the image itself. Through raw materials, scale and hand-applied intervention, the photograph is transformed into a singular physical object—reflecting something of the isolation, severity and beauty of the landscape in which it was made.

At 6.2 × 4.2 feet, ARCTOS REX is a one-of-one work and an early piece from 89° North, an evolving body of work born from the Arctic expedition.
